Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin… (Zechariah 4:10 NLT)
This is just the beginning for those who trust in me. There is more than just what I let you see. While you see only horizons, I lay out open seas. More than just one opportunity to walk in what I have for thee.
The Father loves fresh starts, even if it’s for the 1000th time. Have you ever felt behind? That you have to read 10 chapters then yesterday’s devotional and the one for the day just to get back where you were. Playing constant catch up. Like you’re the fat kid in p.e. that’s hyperventilating in the back, God is in the front saying “Why you breathing so hard?” and all you can say is “Cause I wanna live!” While ememy is in behind you on a skooter trying feed you Little Debbie’s. The reality is God is not way out in front of you getting further by the day. He is right beside you laying out what’s before for you, not what’s behind you. He is saying “You know that ground you lost yesterday? I’ve made up for it already. Also, all your shortfalls today, I made up for those too.” God doesn’t use the past to motivate your future. Start at square one daily. If you build on the success of yesterday, you’ll stumble on the failures of yesterday. Build on the success of enternity.
Have you had the feeling like it just happened yesterday? That because it did. It’s just as easy to get to the beginning of time as it is to get to yesterday. All memories are out of reach, no matter how hard you try they will always be yesterday. If you want your day to go to crap spend it thinking about the past. Yes, there are good memories to think of, but it is physically impossible to do so without finding pain, regret or loss. Let us look fondly on the not try to live in it. Let us look to the future. Who’s future though? Let’s face it, the future you’ve chalked up is based on past results. If I do this, then that will happen. That’s not really living, that’s forecasting. Forecasts are never right anyway. It’s a very uncertain way to live. True living comes in the risk, I don’t know how but I will. Laying your plans down for what the Father has. When we look to the future, let us look to the future He has for us. His future for you is brighter than your future for you. Your plans are based on past experience and present circumstances, His plans a based on future experiences and eternal circumstances. Learn from the past, look to the future, live in the present.
How do we live in today? Then he said to me, “This is what the LORD says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will become a level plain before him! And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: ‘May God bless it! May God bless it!’ ”
(Zechariah 4:6-7 NLT) Live in the Spirit. Not deterred by the past and unafaid of the future. Face the day not like a mountain, but like a plain for you to walk straight across. Trusting the Lord, that everything will fall in its place. Live your days in such a way, that when people watch you they praise the Lord.
Bonus thoughts: Have you ever tried to fathom eternity? How long exactly is forever? How long is the present? In heaven the world as we know it will pass away. (1 Cor 7:31) So that means past is gone, leaving the future and the present. From our current perspective, the future doesn’t exist. We know it’s will happen, but we don’t know what it will be. What if past and future are concepts merely to comprehend the present? What if the place where I Am dwells simply is? What if eternity is not a stretch of time? Is living in the present living in eternity? Not sure where I thought that would land, but there it is.
